The anchor-focused jersey that many Kraken fans have been clamoring for is now here. After much hinting at how Seattle’s “Hometown Remix” jerseys—part of a broader release that includes a new alternate jersey for all 32 NHL teams that were “designed to uniquely and authentically celebrate their fans, city and local culture”—would ultimately turn out, we can now finally get a good look at them.
Our hunch that the secondary anchor/Space Needle logo would become the primary crest for this kit began months ago when we noticed that the second rink at Kraken Community Iceplex had assumed that logo at center ice. Then, the team put out a series of teaser videos over the last few weeks, with the most recent one all but confirming the prominence of the anchor.
For the new jerseys, Seattle maintains the deep sea blue primary color and ice blue trim that adorn its traditional home uniforms. But the team has returned to a similar cream color to what was utilized in the well-regarded 2024 Winter Classic jersey, which featured two prominent cream-colored horizontal stripes, plus some lettering and additional trim in that color.
What we’ve gathered is that the players on the team especially liked those Winter Classic sweaters, but these are also getting rave reviews inside the dressing room.
“I think they’re sweet,” Ryan Winterton said. “Obviously, I wasn’t here for the Winter Classic… those ones are pretty sweet as well, but these are definitely my favorite that we’ve had. Hopefully, they bring us some good luck.”
What I personally love is the series of diagonal lines on the numbers and logos, which up close just look like shading. But if you take a step back, they give all the elements of the jersey a three-dimensional look.
“I like them,” Brandon Montour said. “I’ve only played with our normal ones and the black ones, but I think they might be the nicest ones, to be honest.”
As Montour said that, he nodded at Josh Mahura to get his take, and Mahura agreed.
“Yeah, they’re sick,” Mahura said.
Back to Montour: “I like the colors on these ones. I think they’re really sharp.”
Then Mahura chimed back in, “There’s going to be a lot of 28 ones [in the stands],” implying, of course, that his jersey would be an especially popular purchase among fans.
The traditional ‘S’ logo that usually serves as the main crest has swapped places with the anchor, and it takes on a new look with a cream color, deep sea blue tentacle, and ice blue eye.
There are also some interesting fine details, like mountains on the sleeves and rhododendrons on the inside hem of the jersey, to add even more Pacific Northwest flair.
The jerseys and other special Hometown Remix items are on sale now across Kraken Team Store locations. The team will wear the jerseys six times this season and will eventually utilize those game nights to celebrate specific areas of the region (i.e., Seattle, Eastside, North Sound, South Sound, and Eastern Washington).
