HUMONGOUS EPISODE ALERT!
This week, the guys have the pleasure of speaking with none other than Ray Ferraro, superstar analyst for TSN and NBCSN, and also an 18-year NHL veteran. With Ray, the guys dive pretty deep into his takes on what to watch out for when Seattle’s franchise gets up and running. Plus, plenty of discussion about his career as a broadcaster and some of his best moments behind the mic. The interview with Ray is very much worth the price of admission.
Also in this episode, lots of fun banter between John, Andy, and Darren about such topics as youthful skill, NHL Seattle news (that isn’t really news this time), and David Pastrnak getting into a minor car accident, then posing for a picture with the other driver.
Segments this week include Goalie Gear Corner, Bad Boys, Let’s Get Quizzical, and Weekly One-Timers.
It’s a fun episode!

On the latest Sound of Hockey episode, John goes back to the “quiz show” well and challenges Andy and Darren with a much harder quiz than last time. Fortunately Darren is ready with the perfect name for this apparent new segment.
And since they’re already in the mood for new segments, the guys decide to unveil yet another new addition to the show with “Bad Boys.”
Also in this episode, some classic segments (it’s a segment-heavy episode) like Goalie Gear Corner, Weekly One-Timers, and You Don’t See That Every Day.
And don’t worry, there’s also Seattle updates and a fair dose of #Minnutiae.

Hockey is officially back, and just in time for the season opener, Sound of Hockey comes through with a MASSIVE episode!
This week, the guys welcome the man, the myth, the legend… Mr. Barry Melrose.
With Barry, they have a good chat about his Stanley Cup Final run as coach of the ’93 Los Angeles Kings (which featured Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Jari Kurri and many other superstars), as well as his experiences coaching the Seattle Thunderbirds. They also delve into why Barry thinks Seattle will be a great hockey market and what he expects in the upcoming NHL season.
Also in the episode, the guys break down all of the latest NHL Seattle news and events, including the hiring of five new pro scouts, the official acceptance of the team’s AHL expansion bid in Palm Springs, and much more.
Finally, John, Andy, and Darren get to some current NHL talk, which leads to their regular segments of You Don’t See That Every Day and Weekly One-Timers, before the triumphant return of Games on the Radar.

Episode 53 takes a more traditional structure than some recent episodes, as John, Andy, and Darren get back to their Sound of Hockey roots of starting with NHL Seattle news, then doing some WHL talk, and eventually moving into segments.
Segments play a big role this week and include Get Off My Lawn, You Don’t See That Every Day, Goalie Gear Corner, Tweets of the Week, and of course Weekly One-Timers.
A large chunk of Weekly One-Timers is discussing some of the highlights and especially lowlights of some of the players around the league, both young and old.
Oh, and Darren has a trivia question for you!

It’s another monster episode of Sound of Hockey, as Alexandra Mandrycky—NHL Seattle’s Director of Hockey Administration—joins the podcast for a fantastic interview.
Alex is currently one third of NHL Seattle’s Hockey Operations Department (she was one half at the time of the interview), and after getting her start with War-On-Ice and spending four seasons in the Minnesota Wild Analytics Department, she has now been tasked with building Seattle’s Analytics Department from scratch. Her meteoric rise to working in the NHL is a fascinating story, and one that you won’t want to miss.
Also in this episode, John, Andy, and Darren discuss what they are watching most intently in NHL Training Camps, which are either under way or just around the corner. They also discuss the latest RFA and free agent signings around the league.
Segments in this episode include a WHL-focused “You Don’t See That Every Day,” a robust mask-focused “Goalie Gear Corner,” and a solid set of Weekly One-Timers.
This is a solid episode, and you will like it.

After bringing up his hockey career MANY TIMES on past episodes, Sound of Hockey finally gets a chance to speak with the pride of Bonney Lake, Washington, Dylan Gambrell on Episode 50!
It’s a fun chat with Gambrell that examines his journey from the hockey hotbed that is the Pacific Northwest, to his experiences playing college hockey at Denver University, to his debut in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks.
Also in this episode, John, Andy, and Darren chat about the late breaking news that NHL Seattle has hired Ricky Olczyk as its first Assistant GM. Additionally, plenty of discussion on the NHL owners opting not to re-negotiate the CBA and what this means, as well as a discourse about the many still unsigned RFA’s.
Segments this week include You Don’t See That Every Day, Weekly One-Timers, and Tweets of the Week (which John apparently hates).

Sound of Hockey Episode 49 is an ENORMOUS one, as the guys are already back in the full swing of the season, even thought it’s still August.
This week, Andy and John attend the training camps for the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Everett Silvertips, where they manage to score some great player interviews with the following:
Seattle Thunderbirds
- Roddy Ross
- Matthew Wedman
- Tyrel Bauer
Everett
- Dustin Wolf
- Gianni Fairbrother
- Wyatte Wylie
Yes, that’s a Sound of Hockey single episode record SIX interviews with local WHL players, all of whom have connections to the NHL, either by already being drafted, or by potentially being drafted next summer.
But wait, there’s more!
Also in this episode, there’s some #Minnutiae, You Don’t See That Every Day (sort of), Goalie Gear Corner, and Weekly One-Timers.

Sound of Hockey took a significant one-week hiatus to rest up and recover from its first “season.” But that proved to be far too long of an offseason for the guys, who are champing at the bit to get back to work for Episode 48!
This week, there are lots of chuckles to be had, as John, Andy, and Darren discuss such hard-hitting storylines as Patrik Laine’s convincing interview on his future with the Winnipeg Jets, a Friday-night viewing of some random 1994 NHL Playoff game, and of course last week’s NHL Mascot Conference.
Plus, some Seattle-related news, as Oak View Group has apparently filed for a trademark of the name “Firebirds” for its future AHL team (hopefully) in Palm Springs. What does this mean? The guys tell you in this episode.
Segments this week include Goalie Gear Corner, Weekly One-Timers, and Tweets of the Week.

Sound of Hockey is a back to a more traditional format this week, breaking down the latest in Seattle, CHL/WHL, and NHL news.
The biggest bombshell of the week came from Darren’s beloved Minnesota Wild, which opted to relieve General Manager Paul Fenton of his duties after just 14 months at the helm of the franchise. Sure, it’s probably #Minnutiae, but deal with it, because it’s a pretty big and interesting story, and John, Andy, and Darren do a good job discussing what led to the surprising firing.
In addition to the Wild news, the guys discuss a big-time hiring in the CHL, share their thoughts from the World Junior Summer Showcase, and rip on the Ottawa Senators (again). Oh, and by the way, lots of chatter on this episode about proper jersey number selection etiquette, which has recently become a hot topic.
Segments in this episode include Explain It To Us, Weekly One-Timers, and Tweets of the Week.

Sound of Hockey has a slightly different format this week, as John, Andy, and Darren speak with 10-year NHL veteran, Jamie Huscroft, for almost an hour.
It’s an electric in-person interview that touches on all phases of Jamie’s hockey career, from playing in the WHL in the Pacific Northwest, to skating alongside legends like Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, and Mark Messier.
Jamie—known for getting involved in fisticuffs in his playing days—shares his thoughts on fighting in today’s NHL, how concussions affected him both during his playing career and after, how he landed back in Seattle, and even some of the off-ice shenanigans that he endured.
With this episode, you will get some outstanding stories from Jamie, and some very good laughs along the way.
