A look at how Kraken prospects performed at the World Junior Summer Showcase
The World Junior Summer Showcase is an idle summer exhibition among four U20 national teams. No trophy or title is on the line, and summer play always needs to be taken in context. It also means a lot, though. For the nations—the United States, Canada, Sweden, and...
What UFAs are still available for the Kraken to sign?
The bulk of NHL free agency is far in the rearview mirror. But there are still some unrestricted free agents (UFAs) out there who could be intriguing short-term options, especially for the Seattle Kraken, who still need to add to their depth. The Kraken have already...
Ep. 346 – Let Darren Cook?
After Darren took a 5-star beating on the last episode, he's back from his hiatus (which he talks about quite a bit), and several listeners came rushing to his aide on this week's episode. That leads to plenty of hijinks, but don't worry, there's also lots of Kraken...
Data Dump: Seattle Kraken goal scoring over 2024-25
As we approach the dog days of the NHL offseason, I wanted to take a deep dive into the Seattle Kraken’s scoring to identify some areas of opportunity for improvement. Specifically, I want to look at the key drivers of scoring — things like volume, quality, and...
Projecting the Seattle Kraken defensive systems under Lane Lambert
As a hockey fan tracks the puck ricocheting around the ice between whistles, one might reasonably conclude that the sport is nothing more than improvised chaos (with sword shoes!). If you cast a broader gaze, though, the coordination of a ballet and the tactics of a...
Kraken sign Kaapo Kakko, avoid arbitration
The Seattle Kraken have signed restricted free agent Kaapo Kakko to a three-year, $13.575 million contract, avoiding arbitration just days before his scheduled July 25 hearing. The $4.525 million average annual value will carry Kakko into his prime, setting him up to...

Digging into the 2025-26 Seattle Kraken schedule
The Seattle Kraken’s offseason is in full swing, and while attention has (rightfully) been on the draft, trades, and free agency, I always look forward to the release of the NHL regular-season schedule. And as I do every year, I also like to dig into the numbers...

On July 6, the NHL and NHLPA announced they had agreed to a new four-year deal extending their labor agreement through the 2029-30 season. The new agreement contains a number of league-wide changes scheduled to take effect in the 2026-27 season. For example, NHL teams...
Ep. 344 – Featuring Caden Price and Kaden Hammell
The Sound Of Hockey prospect interview series carries on as the guys interview Caden Price and Kaden Hammell on this latest episode. Fun conversations with both. Also, lots of Development Camp thoughts and RFA updates, then eventually a BIG game of catch-up on what...
Understanding the arbitration process: What it means for Kaapo Kakko and the Kraken
It happens every offseason—restricted free agents file for arbitration, and fanbases panic. In the case of the Seattle Kraken, forward Kaapo Kakko has filed for arbitration, becoming the fifth player in franchise history to do so. However, no Kraken player has ever...
