The Kraken have gotten off to a good start in Round 2 against the Dallas Stars, and John and Darren are back for another Sound Of Hockey Podcast, bringing you up to speed on all the details.
Aside from oodles of Kraken talk, you’ll also get a Coachella Valley Firebirds update and some Thunderbirds talk. Plus, a look around the NHL as a whole, and some discussion on the Blackhawks winning the Draft Lottery.
It’s been a hard week for Sound Of Hockey. Our good friend, Andy Eide, one third of the Sound Of Hockey Podcast, passed away Friday after suffering a stroke on March 18. In this episode, Darren and John pay tribute to their friend.
Andy would want the show to go on, and he would want the guys to talk about the Kraken and their upcoming playoff run, so that’s what happens next.
On this show, SOH also has interviews with Alex Wennberg and Seattle Thunderbirds coach Matt O’Dette.
If you can get through the sad parts at the beginning, it’s a pretty great episode.
It’s been an up-and-down week for the Kraken, but they are still in a good spot for making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. So, on the latest Sound Of Hockey Podcast episode, John and Darren discuss the postseason landscape and where the Kraken might fit into it.
They start the show with a breakdown of the latest Kraken games, then give some updates from around the Western Conference.
Next, they go over to the WHL for some info about the upcoming playoffs, then to the PHF for a recap of their Isobel Cup championship game, and finally to the NCAA for a quick preview of the upcoming Men’s Frozen Four.
Once they’ve gotten through all that stuff, they shift to segments, which this week include:
It’s been a bonkers week around the NHL, and the Sound Of Hockey welcomes Eddie Olczyk back this week to talk about it. With Edzo, who is checking in from Las Vegas, the guys talk about his whirlwind season, and he gives his thoughts on what has been going on in the lead-up to the NHL Trade Deadline. It’s a fun convo.
The interview is just a small piece of a supersized episode, though. John and Darren (no Andy this week) go deep into what has been happening with the Kraken and their expectations for what the team will do before Friday’s deadline.
After the Olczyk interview, the guys jump to a robust “Interesting or Carry On” to get through all of the big trades around the NHL. They then shift to segments, which this week include:
The Seattle Kraken have hit the NHL All-Star break in first place in the Pacific Division. On this episode of the Sound Of Hockey Podcast, John, Andy, and Darren answer oodles of your Mailbag questions as the primary focus of the show.
Before the Mailbag, they break down Seattle’s last two games before the break, discuss Matty Beniers having to miss the All-Star Game due to injury, and take a trip Down on the Farm.
After the Mailbag, the show shifts to segments, which this week include:
Just one week after John Barr failed to show up for the episode named after him, Andy Eide pulls a similar stunt in Episode 220. Thankfully, this show has Darren Brown to hold everything together. Phew!
It is a fun one, though, as Darren and John get together to discuss all things Kraken, despite both having endured some difficult weather elements in recent days.
First, the guys break down Seattle’s losses to Vancouver and Calgary, then consider how things are looking on the whole for the team, which actually has a pretty bad record now over its last 10 games.
Next, they go Down on the Farm to discuss the World Junior Championship before shifting to segments, which this week include:
