CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!
Seattle has officially been awarded the 32nd NHL franchise, and John Barr, Andy Eide, and Darren Brown are here to tell you all about it!
In Episode 13, Darren starts the show off with a VERY unique musical tribute to his co-host, John, for all of the incredible work that John put in to make the NHL coming to Seattle a reality (don’t laugh at Darren, he tried really hard). Then the guys recap the events of December 4th and just how special they were, from the announcement itself, to the reaction of the community, to our politicians trash-talking Vancouver.
During NHL Seattle’s party that day, Andy and Darren managed to get some live fan reactions from a few friends of the NHLtoSeattle cause, so those clips are in the show. Nick Cotsonika of NHL.com even drops by to give his two cents on the matter (spoiler, Nick doesn’t think Seattle will win the Cup in its first season).
John also gives his review of seeing The Mighty Ducks for the first time ever. Then the guys dive into current NHL news, such as the hiring of Chuck Fletcher to be the GM of the Flyers, William Nylander finally signing with the Maple Leafs (thank God that’s over), and the big trade between the Blackhawks and Coyotes.

Episode 12 is here, and the guys have lots to talk about after two coach firings, two very full slates of NHL games on the days before and after Thanksgiving, and one Gritty wedding crash. Darren has been on vacation in New York during recording, but refuses to miss a week #ForThePod!
This week, the guys discuss the upcoming December 4th Board of Governors vote to determine whether or not Seattle will be granted an NHL hockey franchise, as well as what they expect to come out of that meeting. They also consider the various factors surrounding when the team will actually start, as lots of rumblings have been happening about a 2021 start as opposed to a 2020 start.
Looking around the NHL, Andy, John, and Darren break down the coaching changes in Edmonton and St. Louis, examine the Sabres’ awesome hot streak, and have their minds boggled at Patrik Laine’s scoring tear. Oh, and they make fun of Brian Burke for hating the Hurricanes’ “surge” celebration.

On the latest episode of Sound of Hockey, John, Andy, and Darren start by sharing their heartfelt love for Brad Marchand, who recently pulled yet another interesting stunt to get himself in hot water.
On the Seattle front, John confesses that he’s never seen The Mighty Ducks, when sharing about the upcoming SIFF film festival event. This leads to some spoilers of classic hockey films, because Andy just can’t contain himself.
Next, the guys dive into the LA Kings’ firing of coach John Stevens and what it means for that franchise. After spending way too much time on the Kings, they then spend even more time on the Canucks, much to Darren’s dismay, but eventually appease him with Goalie Gear Corner.

This week, Andy, John, and Darren start with a nice discussion about John Tortorella’s latest rant, this one regarding the newfound softness of the NHL.
They then slide into some Seattle talk, specifically about the news that the NHL already has 2020 realignment on the radar to accommodate the new team, as well as that the NHL’s players are completely out of touch with what the team should be called (Crapweasels, obvi).
In that realm, they also discuss some WHL and WHL alumni news, before jumping into the revelation that the NHL is full steam ahead on making money off of hockey-related gambling.

HUMONGOUS EPISODE THIS WEEK!
The first ever guest on Sound of Hockey is Dave Tippett, former NHL player, head coach, Jack Adams Award winner, and current advisor for NHL Seattle. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this one whether you’re a Seattle-based hockey fan or not.
With Dave, the guys – John, Andy, and Darren – talk extensively about Tippett’s experience working on the Seattle project, but they also get into some pretty good hockey talk in general. Tippett shares some awesome stories from his time coaching the Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes, explains his metrics for evaluating players, and even tells us what the Dave Tippett blow-up looks like. Oh, and he explains the context of this beautiful video.
Also in this episode, a recap of Peter Laviolette’s press scrum in which he donned a life-like bull mask, a riveting update on where the trees around KeyArena are being moved to (oh yes, it’s riveting), a check-in on some of the former WHL players that have reached the NHL.
