Episode 6 – Let Us Have Our Day

In Episode 6, John is back from New York – where he watched his Sharks get smoked by the Islanders with 8,000 of his closest friends – so he once again joins Andy and Darren in BarrDown Studios.

Together, the guys revisit Seattle’s practice facility now that the news is official, and give a riveting update on the construction of KeyArena.

Also in Seattle hockey news, they analyze the “heated” exchange between the Governor of Washington and the Premier of BC, and Andy gives an update on the WHL.

Next, the guys examine the increased scoring in the NHL and what may be contributing to the higher numbers, before they get downright buried in Weekly One-Timers. One-Timer topics include:

-Auston Matthews/Patrick Kane celebration trolling

-Hurricanes’ new stick salute

-Rick Nash retiring, but also totally not retiring

-Nashville’s excessive banners

-Red Wings changing the color of their seats to hide the emptiness

They wrap the show up with a GREAT “Get Off My Lawn” rant from John (about basketball).

Episode 5 – Guess Who Won a T-Shirt (and a Practice Facility)!

In the latest episode, John has selfishly taken a vacation to New York, but unselfishly has also taken time out of said vacation to participate in the podcast. So, Sound of Hockey has officially gone bi-coastal!

This week, John, Andy, and Darren break down the revelation of the NHL Seattle group planning a three-ice-sheet practice facility in the area of Northgate Mall, and they daydream about how great that will be for the hockey community once completed.

They also review NHL opening night and reminisce about the great times had at NHL Seattle’s watch party this past week (spoiler: it was Darren that won the t-shirt).

This episode even features the triumphant returns of segments like Goalie Gear Corner, in which they talk about this beauty of a mask, Weekly One-Timers, and Games On Our Radar. Plus, a hot new segment is introduced called “Get Off My Lawn,” in which the guys begrudgingly compare the pros and cons of NHL.tv versus NHL CenterIce.

Episode 4 – IT’S HAPPENING! HOCKEY IS COMING!

In the latest episode of Sound of Hockey, the guys are over the moon about the NHL’s Board of Governors Executive Committee recommending acceptance of Seattle’s expansion application. There’s no shortage of discussion on what this means to the city, the fans, and the league.

John, Andy, and Darren also chat about the latest from around the NHL, including some surprising and unfortunate injury news, interesting post-camp roster moves, and what will happen now that Joe Thornton has decided to shave his beard.

Other hard-hitting topics include Auston Matthews’ photo shoot for GQ, Carolina wearing Hartford Whalers uniforms, and an analysis of the commercials currently being played on NHL Network.

Episode 3 – The Gritty-est Episode Yet + A Big Day for Seattle

The third episode of Sound of Hockey is a fun one!

With the ENORMOUS NEWS of the Seattle City Council officially voting 8-0 in favor of the KeyArena project, the guys are in a particularly chipper mood for this one. Helping that mood even more is the Philadelphia Flyers’ revelation of their new mascot, Gritty, which has taken the hockey world by storm. Together, John, Andy, and Darren break down both topics in detail.

Additionally, the guys “enjoy” a little pre-season hockey talk and discuss the prospects that they’re each keeping their eyes on during this otherwise meaningless stage of the current campaign.

Finally, each host gives his own opinion of which under-the-radar NHL team is most likely to make an unexpected run this season, which quickly deteriorates into unintentional season previewing for the Atlantic and Pacific Divisions.

Episode 2 – A Great Segue Back Into Hockey

HOCKEY IS BACK!

In this episode of Sound of Hockey, the guys talk about a bevy of topics.

Locally, they talk about the latest on the Seattle Arena front, and Andy gives a little tutorial on the WHL and how it functions as a league.

In more broad hockey talk, John, Darren, and Andy react to the earth shattering news of the past week, with Steve Yzerman stepping down in Tampa Bay (could he be tied to Seattle?), Erik Karlsson getting traded from the disaster in Ottawa, and Max Pacioretty moving to the Golden Knights.

There’s also an in-depth breakdown of Eugene Melnyk’s very uncomfortable “interview” with Mark Borowiecki, and a heartfelt and hard-hitting discussion about goalie masks.

Oh, and they manage to glide through the episode with some fantastic segues.

Enjoy!

Episode 1 – A Busy Week In Seattle!

Not all of our episodes will be this heavily focused on NHL to Seattle news, but with so much happening this week surrounding a possible franchise coming to the Emerald City, we couldn’t resist talking about it!

The NHL’s Bill Daly hinted that expansion may not come in 2020, but rather 2021, so the guys discussed this to determine if there should be any concern.

John and Andy also attended Seattle’s important City Council meeting, so in this episode, we have plenty of chatter about some of the nuggets that came from that meeting, as well as what they mean in the grand scheme of things. John also helps us understand the timeline of upcoming events as they pertain to an arena getting done.

Together, John, Andy, and Darren share their excitement over the idea of actual NHL hockey and hockey season in general being just around the corner. There will be lots of interesting storylines to keep an eye on this season!
